The Walter J. Travis Society

Travis Society celebrates Reversible Day at East Potomac golf course

April 26, 2026 4:43 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

On Friday April 17th seven Walter J. Travis Society members made the trip to Wasghington, D.C. play in the annual East Potomac golf course's Reversible Day. For those interested in learning more about the original, two-way course design inspired by St Andrews, and designed by Walter Travis, click here.

Despite the limited budget, the course was in fine shape even though our routes to the greens went through rough and tall grassy areas. (in reverse) It was reported that most of the "Travis Greens and Bunkers" were "softened" a bit to make play faster (and maybe easier). For those of us not used to the big-city noise while playing a round of golf, the constant roar of planes taking off from Reagan National was a new experience.

The weather however was a perfect 10.  Mid 80's for April was a welcome relief from those of us from the upper Northeast. The surrounding scenery was unique as the Washington Monument was visible from anywhere on the course.  The staff was very welcoming with coffee and donuts in the morning, drinks of choice on the course, and a summertime BBQ after the round. We want to thank all those who participated as well as those who organized the event.
