Walter J. Travis designed a number of extant golf courses, and all of them open with a memorable hole. Some are par-four traces, while others are par-five variety. In common, they have strategy, uncertainty, and a few tricks along the way.
In 2025, the WJTS created a March Madness: Course Logo contest on our Instagram feed (@wjtsociety) to determine which Travis club or course had the best logo. The winner was the Country Club of Troy, in a bit of an upset. Here at WJTS headquarters, we learned one thing: it's about support. You may have the best of the best, but without the support of the voters, you won't taste victory.
Here is a call, then, to each and every membership, to rally the troops and defend club honor.
In advance, we send love to Columbia, Round Hill, Youngstown, White Beeches, and other Travis abodes who will not compete in 2026 March Madness. We will feature your Travis etchings later this year, when we debut a summer competition.
For the sixteen participants (see below) in four brackets, know this: you must finish in the top two vote-getters of your bracket, during round one, to advance. In round two, the four top vote getters, regardless of bracket finish, will advance to the final. Popular vote matters.
Once more, visit @wjtsociety, our Instagram feed, beginning Monday, March 30th, to cast your ballots. Best of fortune to our sweet sixteen.
