This page consists of plans that Walter J. Travis created for several of his golf course projects, as well as course maps those creator is unknown. Most of the plans are from the 1919 to 1926 period of time, thus representing the latter stage of his career as a golf course architect. Very few examples have been found of earlier golf course project drawings by Travis. The two 1916 drawings are rather primitive in character and lack details such as bunkering. These drawings accompanied newspaper articles announcing the proposed golf courses and the involvement of Walter Travis as designer. We cannot be certain that the 1916 drawings were done by Travis, though the Sargowana map contains a signature that bears a close resemblance to Travis’s.
The 1913 Country Club of Buffalo map was taken from a 1913 CCB document. It was not drawn by Travis, but presents the course as it was played in the 1912 U.S. Open. Prior to that Open, Travis offered many suggestions that were followed in the improvement of the course.
The later drawings are remarkable in their detail, given that they were done well before the era of computer-generated plans. Unfortunately, some of the copies, such as the Stafford Country Club course layout, are of poor quality. If you contact the Travis Society, we may be able to provide higher definition copies.

- The CC of Scranton course is an “outside/inside” layout, with the front nine circling the second nine.
- Shortly after the above August 1926 layout was completed, Walter J. Travis submitted drawings that included changes to the original layout affecting holes #8 and #9
- 1913 course layout of the Country Club of Buffalo. This map was not drawn by Walter Travis, but it is believed to represent the course on which the 1912 U.S. Open was played. Remodeling of the course prior to the Open followed the many suggestions made by Travis.
